Maikel Menéndez

(La Habana, Cuba, 1973)

"M. Menéndez's painting places us at the point of origin, without even arriving at the reason, crossing the impulses of desire, trying to release the inner forces which provoke his action in his daily professional and intellectual practice."

M. Menéndez's painting places us at the point of origin, without even arriving at the reason, crossing the impulses of desire, trying to release the inner forces which provoke his action in his daily professional and intellectual practice. Painting to define his dream, more than utopian, telluric, in the roots of an imaginary geography, to face the challenges of the present-past-future, in turmoil, in conflict for being and for meaning. And logically all this, starting from the given information which the real space imposes, our social worlds impose the construction on the foundations, the projection on the reality, sometimes very complex, and not on an ideal empty space. His work originates from this dialogue in tension on the experienced reality, the emotions which they produce and the potential reality. It is directed towards a confirmed will to find a way, a meeting point between reason and passion and to allow to configure materials from the spirit as well as the flesh and the bones, a world which incites us to watch, to try to understand and, above all, to try to move on, to participate in the construction of a world which isn't unfamiliar to us in anything.
